Excursion to Monti Sartorius
DESCRIPTION
The Monti Sartorius excursion is a favorite due to its simplicity and the opportunity to explore an entire eruptive fissure over just 3 km. The trailhead is easy to find, less than 1 km from the road leading to Rifugio Citelli, marked by a sign and a green gate. The trail passes through a forest of pines and Etna birches (endemic species), leading to a plateau with small endemic plants, lava flows, and pyroclastic deposits. The ascent offers views of craters, the vast lava flow, the Linguaglossa pine forest, the Ionian coastline, Calabria across the Strait of Messina, and Monte Frumento delle Concazze. A lunch break can be arranged at Rifugio di Monte Baracca, managed by the CAI of Linguaglossa, just over 1 km from Monti Sartorius.

A small parking area is available near a green gate marking the entrance. The trail begins on a dirt road and transitions to a gentle path lined with Etna’s endemic plants. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views of the Gulf of Catania, the Ionian Sea, and ancient craters of Etna’s southern slope.
