Tips and Warnings for the Trekking Crossing of Etna

Warnings

rekking is not recommended for those who do not regularly go on mountain excursions.

The excursion requires good physical preparation.

Trekking requires a fair amount of physical preparation. Since it is a route that develops at high altitude, it will be easy to feel the symptoms of fatigue.

Caution is required, as it is an active volcanic area, subject to constant gaseous exhalations and composed of a terrain made up of inconsistent and unstable rocks.

Caution is required as the soil is volcanic and often loose and unstable.

The excursion may be subject to changes at the discretion of the Guides or be interrupted if environmental, atmospheric or volcanic conditions change, which could compromise the safety of the entire group.

The total duration of the trek will depend on your pace.

The excursion will take place within the limits set by the ordinances in force.

Also suitable for children over 12 years old.

The route includes climbing and passing along the crater rims, which could cause vertigo problems for sensitive individuals.

This itinerary, in relation to the type and altitude, is suitable for people in good physical health, who do not suffer from particular pathologies (strongly not recommended for those who suffer from problems: cardiovascular, respiratory or hypertension).

We do not recommend the use of contact lenses because of the gases released by the volcano and the ash which, if blown, could easily cause problems.

Pregnant women who are past the third month of pregnancy are not permitted to engage in any type of hiking activity.

To ensure the success of the excursion and the correct performance of the activity, it is good practice to know your health conditions perfectly and to make them known to the Guide, if necessary, all this to reduce the onset of any problems and avoid running risks.

Plan a Safe and Comfortable Excursion

When planning a hike, it is essential to prepare properly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Here are some essential tips that should never be missing from your equipment.

Layered Clothing

Wearing layers is crucial to adapt to temperature changes throughout the day. A short-sleeved shirt combined with a thermal or long-sleeved shirt will allow you to regulate your body temperature effectively, keeping you comfortable in any situation.

Trekking Shoes

Hiking shoes are essential to ensure stability and comfort during your walks. Choose a pair of shoes suitable for the terrain you will be tackling, as good footwear can prevent injuries and fatigue.

 Windbreaker or Down Jacket

Depending on the season, a windbreaker or a down jacket can make all the difference in keeping you warm and dry. These pieces of clothing protect you from the elements and help you enjoy your hike without worries.

Gloves and Hat

In cold weather, gloves and a hat are essential to maintain body heat. Be sure to bring them with you, especially if you plan to be outdoors for several hours.

Packed Lunch

Bringing a nutritious lunch will give you the energy you need to get through the day. Choose light but nutrient-dense foods, such as nuts, energy bars, and sandwiches.

Water – Minimum 2 L per person

Hydration is essential during any physical activity. Make sure to bring at least 2 liters of water per person to stay hydrated and fit during the hike.

Other Important Elements

In addition to the above-mentioned items, also consider bringing snacks to recharge along the way, trekking poles for better stability, a K-way for rain, a 25/30-liter backpack to carry everything you need, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect you from UV rays, spare socks in case you get sweaty or wet, long pants and a waterproof jacket to deal with any changes in the weather, and a spare T-shirt to stay cool.

Be well prepared and enjoy your outdoor adventure!
