Itinerary

The excursion starts from the Esagonal bar at 1,900 meters above sea level.

After paying and  purchasing the return tickets together with your guide,  you will take the cable car up to an altitude of 2,500 meters.

Here your uphill trek will begin  for 500 meters of positive altitude difference,  among recent snow-covered lava flows, large craters, lava flow channels,  hot fumaroles with high-temperature gas emissions , up to an altitude of  3000 meters – MAXIMUM HEIGHT REACHABLE AT THE MOMENT DEPENDING ON VOLCANIC RISK LEVELS –    at the base of the South-East Crater, the most active at the moment on Etna.

The descent from 3000 m is planned on foot to the cable car, for the final return to the starting point.

Trekking is  not recommended  for those who do little physical activity.

The excursion does not require any particular physical preparation, but  caution is required  as it is on volcanic soil, often inconsistent and unstable.

 The excursion may be subject to changes at the discretion of the Guides or be interrupted if environmental, atmospheric or volcanic conditions change, such as to compromise the  safety  of the entire group.

The total duration of the trek will depend on your pace.

The excursion will take place within the limits set by the  ordinances  in force.

Suitable for children aged 12 and over .

The route includes climbing and passing along the crater rims, which could cause  vertigo problems  for sensitive individuals.

This itinerary, in relation to the type and altitude , is suitable for people in good physical health, who do not suffer from particular pathologies ( cardiovascular ,  respiratory  or  hypertension ). 

We do not recommend  the use of  contact lenses  because of the gases released by the volcano and the ash which, if blown, could easily cause problems.

Pregnant women who are beyond the third month of  pregnancy are not permitted to engage in any type of hiking activity.

To ensure the success of the excursion and the correct performance of the activity, it is good practice to know your  health conditions perfectly  and to inform the Guide if necessary, all this to reduce the onset of any problems and avoid running  risks .

Tips for a Safe and Comfortable Hike

Recommended clothing:  Layers, thermal T-shirt, fleece/down jacket, windbreaker ( better if worn in a ski suit ), gloves and hat.

You Should Know That...

In case of adverse weather conditions, we will notify you to inform you of the cancellation or postponement of your excursion, as soon as possible.    

Advance payment for the reservation is not required ( except for agencies, groups or private guide services ), after having communicated the reservation to our number: +39 345 5741330 you will pay directly the guide who will be with you on the day of the excursion.  

There is no advance payment for transportation . The guide will accompany you to the Etna Cable Car office to pay for the return tickets, shortly before departure. 

In case of many requests, participants will be divided into smaller groups with different guides, depending on the languages ​​to avoid the formation of large groups of people.
