Snowshoeing on Etna

Itinerary

The excursion starts from Piano Provenzana (1800 m), on the northern side of Etna, crossing snow-covered forests and ancient lava flows. After a brief introduction, we head along a snow-covered path that takes us to the 2002 Craters.
Climbing to about 2100 meters, we cross spectacular landscapes between black volcanic rocks and white expanses, admiring views that extend to the sea. Once we reach the craters, the contrast between snow and lava makes the landscape fascinating and surreal.
After a stop at the top to admire the view, we gently descend towards Piano Provenzana, concluding an excursion of about 3 hours between volcanic history and uncontaminated nature.

Tips for a Safe and Comfortable Hike

When planning a hike, it is essential to prepare properly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Here is a list of essential items to consider, with a focus on the top five, which are crucial to any outdoor adventure.

Layered Clothing

Layering is essential to adapt to changes in temperature and weather. Start with a short-sleeved shirt, followed by a long-sleeved thermal shirt, and finish your outfit with a fleece or sweatshirt. This system allows you to adjust your clothing based on the climate, while maintaining comfort throughout the hike.

Trekking Shoes

Hiking shoes are essential for stability and support when walking on uneven terrain. Invest in a good pair of shoes that will reduce the risk of injury and fatigue, allowing you to fully enjoy your adventure.

Windbreaker or Down Jacket

Depending on the season, a windbreaker or a down jacket can make a difference in keeping you warm and dry. These items are particularly protective from the elements and are useful in case of sudden changes in the weather.

Gloves and Hat

Even in the warmest months, it is advisable to wear gloves and a hat, especially if you are in high mountains or in windy areas. These accessories help maintain body heat and protect from the elements.

Water – Minimum 1 L

Staying hydrated is essential during any physical activity. Make sure to bring at least a liter of water to avoid dehydration and keep your energy levels up.

Other Important Elements

In addition to the five items mentioned above, also consider bringing snacks to recharge your batteries, trekking poles to improve your balance, a windbreaker for additional protection from the elements, a 25/30-liter backpack to carry all your essentials, and long pants to protect you from scratches and insects.
